Do Children Need Vitamins?

It will not astonish you probably only who the experts are in disagreement on if children should take vitamins. On a side of the discussion are the medical experts who believe that the children obtain a sufficient quantity of vitamins and ores of their mode. Side of flick are the medical professionals who look at the need for the supplementation of vitamin so that the adults are the same ones for children. The experts with this belief identify that the children, like adults, always do not consume foods which they must obtain the sufficient food.

For example, the children generally have an aversion with vegetables, such as the broccoli. The children can also have healthes which prevent them from consuming a particular food. In these cases, the children can not obtain sufficient quantities of food. This concern is significant for children because the food is imperative with their growth.

Prescription Pain Pill Abuse By Teens Increases

A survey of more than 50,000 teens nationwide reveals changes in the reported use of illicit drugs. The annual survey, funded by the National Institutes of Health’s National Institute on Drug Abuse and conducted by the University of Michigan, shows a decrease in the use of marijuana and cigarettes, yet an increase in the non-medicinal use of prescription pain medications, especially opioids like oxycodone (OxyContin) and hydrocodone (Vicodin, Vicodin ES).
While overall reported lifetime illicit drug use declined for 10th graders, and for 12th -grade students, the use of prescription painkillers has increased.
In 2005, 9.5% of 12th grade students reported using hydrocodone or oxycodone for nonmedical purposes.
Besides the problem of narcotic painkillers, abuse of combination medications (alcohol or tylenol) can cause liver toxicity.

FDA Warns Against Use of 3 Recalled IV Medications

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is warning healthcare professionals not to use intravenous versions of metronidazole, ciprofloxacin, and ondansetron manufactured by Claris Lifesciences after receiving reports of 2 contaminated intravenous bags.
The medications in question are sold under the labels of Claris, Sagent Pharmaceuticals, Pfizer, and West-Ward Pharmaceuticals. Claris is recalling all lots of these products.
Ciprofloxacin and metronidazole are antibiotics; ondansetron is an antiemetic used to combat nausea and vomiting associated with surgery or chemotherapy.
The FDA announcement on the medications, issued May 29, follows on the heels of the voluntary recall last month of all lots of metronidazole injection, USP 500 mg/100 mL, by Sagent Pharmaceuticals, after Sagent discovered that 2 lots were not sterile.
The FDA stated that it received reports of floating white matter in 2 bags of Claris intravenous medications — 1 involving metronidazole, the other ondansetron. Microbiological analysis identified the substance in the metronidazole bag as a Cladosporium mold, which can cause infections in immunocompromised and other susceptible patients. The white matter in the bag of ondansetron is still being analyzed. The FDA is not aware of any reports of injuries caused by these products.
